‘The best of both worlds” is the way Adiharma Purnomo describes the St. Clair West neighbourhood that’s home to the mid- rise Scoop Condos, located at St. Clair West and Osler Street.
“A lot of families have lived there for 20, 30, 40 years,” says Graywood Development’s vice-president of development project management. They create a mature, multi- cultural neighbourhood, but the area — wedged between Corso Italia and The Junction — is also in transition.
With a boost from the revitalized St. Clair streetcar line, the community has been changing, Purnomo says, with new businesses and retail, and a new GO train station and SmartTrack stop planned for nearby St. Clair and Keele.
“We’re pretty excited about the changes,” the developer adds. “That’s one of the reasons we invested in this neighbourhood.”
100 Steps There are lots of dining options. Opt for Vietnamese one night at Pho Xua across the street, try the baked goods of Alli’s Fresh Baked another, or go for Portuguese at Sabores Tradicionais. “Just start walking,” Purnomo says, “and you’ll see the smaller shops, the Portuguese restaurants, sports bars, cafés, cleaners, barber shops — everything you need.”
250 Steps Join a game of hoops, take the kids to the playground or bring the dog for a walk. Wadsworth Park is just a few minutes south of the site, or walk north to SADRA Park ( because every pup needs a few go-to spots). Public amenities are thriving too, Purnomo adds. The Joseph J. Piccininni Community Centre and adjacent Earlscourt Park have an indoor pool, tennis courts, a track and an off-leash dog area. 750 Steps While St. Clair Avenue has plenty of establishments, there’s another option for shopping needs. Stockyards Village is a short walk west, and features Old Navy, Winners, HomeSense and other chain stores, as well as Chipotle, Sunset Grill and Subway. “All those established commercial retailers are literally a 10- to 15-minute walk,” Purnomo says.
