SORRY, APPLE, YOU’RE NOT WELCOME IN MY COZY MOMENT
That Nordic sense of cozying up by the fire, with warm socks, scarf and sweater, has become a winter meme of late. However, as one Dane puts it, it should be a year-round quality. Bonnie Rasmussen tells Apartment Therapy that hygge “is best described as the feeling or atmosphere that stems from evoking all our senses.” For her, it can be the heat of a bonfire or a baby’s chuckles. It can be experienced with close friends, or solo. Its basic requirements are “a coming together of several pleasant sensations in our minds and bodies.” Gently embrace and enjoy the pleasant times; you’ll feel light-hearted and more connected to nature, people or both. First, and most important, she says, is to toss the damn cellphone (our words, not hers) so you can be present in the moment, not just warming toes in front of the fire while flicking through IG.
