E BOOK OF THE WEAK

Each week, we scour Amazon’s list of recently published eBooks to find the most outrageous trash-erotica, libellous tell-all, outlandish conspiracy theory and bizarre personal memoir to share with you, our dear readers.

This week’s selection is: One Fell Sweep (Inn keeper Chronicles Book 3) Ilona Andrews NYLA 259 pp; $4.88) The grossest place I ever stayed was in Manitoba, near the Ontario border. The innkeeper didn’t ask for a credit card or ID, just $60. It was refreshing to learn places like this still existed, where minimal lodging could be acquired with no questions asked. Then, I got to my unit. It smelled like an ashtray. There were stains on the carpet, whiskers in the sink. The TV had a single channel, which was connected to whatever the innkeeper was watching. And he was watching pornography. The bedding was stiff with a film over top, so I used my dirty laundry as a blanket. It was not a comfortable sleep. Visitors to Dina DeMille’s hotel in One Fell Sweep typically have a much better time. At least until a robot whose last chance at saving his civilization checks in and risks death for all of her guests. Maybe Manitoba motels aren’t so bad after all.
