3 WINNERS NAMED IN HORSE-RACING TECH COMPETITION
Another industry up for disruption by technology is horse racing. Woodbine Entertainment Group, Ryerson University’s Research and Innovation department and its iBoost incubation zone offered Canadian entrepreneurs a chance to codevelop technology within a customer-centric, open innovation program. Horse Racing 3.0: Changing the Game was won by BetShare, with its handicapping platform allowing users to follow experienced players, who then earn money on successful bets they facilitate. BetShare earned $ 12,000 and a six-month enrolment in iBoost to refine the prototype. Second place went to HRX, which got $8,000, and Horseplay, winning $1,000. They also won six months at iBoost. HRX’s platform helps players become horse owners by connecting them with sellers in a fractional ownership program. Horseplay lets users bet on past races, teaching them about real betting on live races. These innovations “present great opportunities to transform horse racing for future generations,” says WEG’s CEO Jim Lawson.
