Oasis of green with city access

- Lisa Van de Ven

‘It’s an ideal pocket for a family that’s looking for a new, larger home in a mature, established area,” Stephanie Lane says about the location of Geranium Home’s infill project, Twelve on the Ravine — a low-rise site with 12 homes.

While it may be located in the urban environment of Scarborough, its Military Trail address, close to Old Kingston Road, is more green than concrete, surrounded as it is by mature trees, and promising views of Highland Creek Ravine from the homes’ back windows. Yet the TTC is easily accessible and Highway 401 just a fiveminute drive away, as are big box stores like Home Depot, Walmart and the LCBO.

And it’s in a well- established neighbourhood, where families of all shapes and sizes live. “Many of the local homes were built in the ’80s, some dating back to the ’50s and ’ 60s, so there’s quite an eclectic mix,” adds Geranium’s manager of sales and marketing. “But most are somewhat older homes.”

25 Steps: Twelve on the Ravine will offer residents an oasis of green views, while also keeping the city easily accessible. With a TTC stop just in front of the future homes, the 38 Highland Creek bus will pass by regularly. “It’s literally just outside the door, just a few steps away,” Lane says. Just as easy to get to, the Highland Creek Public School is located across the street.

300 Steps: Whether you’re a teacher or a student, having the University of Toronto ( U of T) Scarborough campus just six minutes up the street means you’ll no longer have any excuse to be late for class. Walk further and you’ll get to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Built for the 2015 Toronto Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, and now co- owned by the City of Toronto and U of T, it has pools, a gym, a climbing wall and a track. “That’s a huge attraction, a brand new sports space,” Lane says.

600 Steps: “It’s really a selling feature of these 12 lots,” Lane says of the extensive green space throughout the local area. And one way to enjoy it is with a walk through Colonel Danforth Park, off Old Kingston Road. About 10 minutes by foot from the project, it features bike trails, an off- leash dog park and picnic areas .

Homes at Twelve on the Ravine range from 3,047 to 3,882 square feet and are priced from $ 1.7 million. Sales are by appointment only. Call 647-984-5677, or visit 12ontheravine.com.
