URBAN AND COTTAGE ESTHETICS COME TOGETHER IN MIDLAND LISA VAN DE VEN
With a cottage country address and a mixed group of local and second-home buyers to appeal to, the interior designer for The Seasons on Little Lake wanted model vignettes that showed a little bit of everything. “Overall there’s a very clean, contemporary esthetic,” says Dominic DeFreitas. “But if you look closely at the details, we used a lot of more traditional elements.” The kitchen and living room spaces combine rustic accents with a more contemporary twist. “It was about bringing an urban esthetic into a cottage aesthetic,” says the vice president of residential development for figure3. Homes at the Hanson Development site range from approximately 700 to 1,600 square feet and start in the low $200,000s. The sales office is at 16831 Highway 12, Midland and open Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and Monday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 705-526-2700 or visit seasonslittlelake.com.
1“There’s a nice duality there,” DeFreitas says of the living room vignette, where a more feminine, traditional sofa – featuring turned legs and a soft curved design – contrasts with contemporary black leather and wood chairs that are reminiscent of the lounge chairs you see at people’s cottages.
2A barn-board coffee table with welded metal legs introduces a rustic — but still modern — touch, with a durable chevronpatterned hide rug below. “We wanted to showcase pieces that could take some of the abuse you would see up north, and still have it look really good,” DeFreitas says.
3The designer opted for barn board again for the kitchen stools, paired here with an iron frame. “It’s a play on new and old, and it’s really keeping it casual and keeping it fun,” says DeFreitas, who repeated the iron accent in the rustic light fixture above.
4The two-toned grey and white kitchen combines both traditional and contemporary design features, from the classic painted wood finish of the cabinets to the more sleek, white Caesarstone countertops. “Then we went with pops of yellow to keep it fresh and keep it fun,” adds the designer.
