LIBERALS ASSESS YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS
Labour Minister Patty Hajdu, pictured, says she is taking a sweeping look at the country’s youth employment strategy to better target help to those who need it most. The review comes in the wake of a report from an expert panel the government struck last year that came up with 13 recommendations to help young Canadians get into and thrive in a changing labour market. The panel’s final report recommended the Liberals expand eligibility for the Canada Summer Jobs program to include those who are not in postsecondary studies and make funding accessible throughout the year and not just during the summer months. A national student group said the recommendation could go a long way to helping young people in the job market.
