SOPHISTICATED DESIGN STARTS WITH GETTING THE LAYOUT TO FLOW BY LISA VAN DE VEN

-

Good design starts with the basics — and in the two- bedroom- plus- den model suite at Cypress at Pinnacle Etobicoke that meant making sure the space flowed. “We spent a lot of time just getting the layout right,” says Pinnacle International’s Anson Kwok, who wanted a unit that buyers could settle into long term, with a flexible den and functional living areas. Once the floor plan was finalized, the designers at Tanner Hill Associates introduced a neutral palette with pops of pink and gold, and an eclectic but elegant furniture mix. “It has a relaxing feel to it,” adds the vice-president of sales and marketing. Suites range from 554 to over 1,000 square feet and start in the $400,000s. The sales office is at 5475 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke and open Monday to Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Call 416-596-1600 or visit pinnacleetobicoke.ca.

Gold is used to accent the lighting and furniture throughout the suite, adding a touch of old-school glamour. In the dining area, these black leather and gold chairs provide contrast with the more contemporary dark wood table. “I think there’s a sophisticated feel to it,” Kwok says.

“It just brings that industrial, modern feel to it. I think that’s pretty trendy right now,” Kwok says of the dining room light fixture. With Edison-style bulbs and a sculptural blackand-gold design, it adds interest to the space without bulk — keeping views to the living room open.

This elegant mauve chair is just one of several pinkhued accents used within the suite, while the pillows on the sofa bring in different shades of the same tone. “It has a more sophisticated feel to it,” Kwok says of the colour choice. “It’s definitely a grown-up space.”

“It’s really rich.” Kwok says of this heavily grained wood media unit, which adds visual texture to the living room, contrasting with the lighter taupegrey laminate floors. “Nowadays you don’t need a media unit as much, but it would be great for photos and so forth.”
