Re: Law society crosses the line, Bruce Pardy, Oct. 4 As a lawyer in Ontario, I applaud Prof. Bruce Pardy’s column. This new adventure on the part of the Law Society of Upper Canada, it could well be argued, is ultra vires of the society’s statutory function as set forth in Section 4.1 of the Law Society Act. The power to do as it proposes is not to be found in the words of the Act.

Who is or who are the social scientists in the ranks of the benchers who came up with such terms as “accelerati­ng culture shift” to deal with the problem (so-called) of racialism ( not supported statistica­lly in our jurisdicti­on)? They must be kidding and, if they are not, there are dark clouds on the horizon.

Thank goodness I became a lawyer well before all this lofty vision started. George Krusell, Grimsby, Ont.
