Exotic appeal
COLLINGWOOD’S MONACO AIMED AT SOPHISTICATED DOWNSIZERS
Ski country gets a contemporary take in the model suite for Monaco, a new Collingwood condominium project. “We still pull in that resort home-living style,” says interior designer Marlene Card of mc2 designs. “But there’s a little bit of a more exotic appeal.” Featuring locally sourced art juxtaposed with modern millwork and a sleek, European-inspired design, the suite was styled with sophisticated downsizers in mind, looking for a condominium lifestyle with all “the standards that they’ve lived with,” Card says. “We wanted to show them that this is a lifestyle where you don’t have to downsize your quality of life,” she adds. “And that’s there in every finish, every detail.” Suites at the Stonebrook Developments site range from 645 to over 2,400 square feet and are priced from the upper $300,000s. The site is currently in registration. To register, call 1-855-666-2260 or visit monacolife.ca.

Instead of opting for quartz or natural stone, Card chose to use a new product – Geoluxe – for the kitchen countertop, pairing it with a marble mosaic tile backsplash. “There’s a slight peach vein to (the countertop),” she says. “That blush colour shows off in the mosaic tile too.”

Contemporary Italian cabinetry in a textured off-white finish sets the tone for the kitchen, with sleek chrome pulls for a subtle metallic accent. Meanwhile, open shelving offers “an opportunity to store things you want to show off,” Card adds, while clear acrylic stools keep focus on the rest of the space.

The master bedroom’s custom headboard extends up to accentuate the high ceilings, featuring textured chenille upholstery surrounded by slate grey mouldings. The same hues continue through the bedding, in a French linen bedspread and grey sheets, while a throw pulls in the blush tone from the kitchen.

“We were trying to create a timeless, contemporary feel, with some modern touches,” Card says of the master bedroom, and these nightstands are where those modern touches emerge. The floating custom night tables feature a high-gloss lacquer finish that’s carried through to the base of the bed.
