CAMERON ALMOST HIT W EINSTEIN AT OS CARS
The 1998 Academy Awards are memorable for director James Cameron, whose sweeping love saga Titanic picked up nine awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. However, his awards haul is only part of the story from that night. In a feature interview with Vanity Fair, Cameron said that what he remembers best from his big Oscar-winning night is “almost getting in a fight with Harvey Weinstein and hitting him with my Oscar.” The almost-fight apparently took place on the main floor of the theatre where the Oscars were being held, right as the music was playing instructing everyone to get back to their seats. While Cameron, pictured, was gearing up to clock Weinstein, which in retrospect everyone would have loved, the people around them said, “Not here! Not here!” The altercation came about after Weinstein tried to glorify his film distribution company Miramax. Cameron wasn’t having any of it though, mainly citing “Guillermo del Toro and how badly he was dealt with by Miramax on Mimic.” Oh, what could have been.
