November 29, 1949 — Celebrated folk singer Stan Rogers was born in Hamilton, Ont. Rogers was known for his rich baritone voice and finely crafted folk songs, many of which were written and performed in a traditional Celtic style. With songs such as “Barrett’s Privateers” and “Northwest Passage,” he drew on historic and poetic aspects of the Canadian experience. His legend grew after his tragic death in an airplane fire in 1983. To learn more, visit the Historica Canada website at www. historicacanada.ca
