Open House time coming up on Netflix
Imagine losing a father or husband, and then choosing to stay in a relative’s empty vacation home, only to be told you’ve got to make yourself scarce on Sundays during open houses. A foolish decision if there ever was one, but a great recipe for a little horror movie. The Open House, starring Piercey Dalton and Dylan Minnette, is Netflix’s Friday movie première, in case you’re looking for a quick scare.
But if you’re debating catching Steven Spielberg’s The Post this weekend, be smart. Stay home instead and opt for the superior journalism- will- save- us- all movie with Best Picture winner Spotlight, about how the Boston Globe exposed the Catholic Church’s efforts to cover up a massive child molestation scandal.
And if you’re still itching for a little more thoughtprovoking fare, catch Dear White People, also on Netflix. The movie is superior to the TV series, also written and directed by Justin Simien, and takes a look at racial tensions at an Ivy League school from the perspectives of four black students, led by the always outstanding Tessa Thompson.
