DEFINITION: The Pope’s word for those who spread fake news. In a major document on the subject Wednesday, the pontiff likens fake news to the snake in the Garden of Eden that convinced Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge and thus begin the “tragic history of human sin.” He called on news consumers to break out of their comfortable echo chambers and cushy news feeds by seeking out different points of view.
