Rustic charm
Respecting the traditional bones of the home’s exterior, as well as the design-savvy buyers coming to the site, Tamarisk McNalty Stephens opted for an esthetic she calls “rustic elegance” in the model home at Edgewood Greens in Dundalk. “We blended the lines of country living with all the perks of a more elegant, sophisticated estate feel,” says the owner of Tamarisk Interior Design. While the palette is largely soft and neutral, there are pops of colour that can be “easily changed and updated,” the designer says, while wood accents pick up on the country setting outside, juxtaposed against more contemporary elements. “It’s family-friendly, with classic materials and finishes that will hopefully be timeless,” she adds. 1Highlighting the living room’s height and adding in some rustic charm, the wood beam detailing on the 10-foot ceiling plays into the country setting while pulling all eyes up. Accented with an open chrome light fixture, the ceiling adds “character and warmth,” McNalty Stephens says.
2Transitional furniture in a mix of cream and grey upholstery keep the living room soft and airy, with bleached wood and chrome paired together in the coffee and end tables. Pink pillows add colour while dark accents help ground the space, including a shelving unit against one wall.
3“It’s a fairly large space, so layering an additional area rug on top of the carpet breaks it up and creates definition,” McNalty Stephens says of the master bedroom. The area rug introduces pattern as well, picking up on the colours of the bed and dark grey tufted bench.
4A linen-toned upholstered headboard features tufting and nail head detailing for a traditional touch in the bedroom. The bed is finished with tailored grey-and-white bedding and blue accent pillows, while mirrored nightstands flank each side. “The light bounces off them and keeps that airy feeling,” the designer says.
