You might call it good planning, combined with a bit of l uck. When OnePiece Developments and Ideal Developments purchased the land for their two- tower Markham Square project at Ent erprise Boule vard and Main Stree t Unionville, they knew York University was planning a new Markham campus. T he y j ust didn’t know exactly where. Turned out, when the location was announced, it was right across the street. “One of our towers will look right at the York campus,” says Omar Khan, Ideal’s sales manager. But that’s not all. Highway 407, Markville Shopping Centre and Unionville High School are all short drives away, and it’s an easy commute to Toronto too — and even closer for buyers working in York Region itself.

100 Steps If you’re an athlete, training has to be a lot easier when it’s right across the street. Built for the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Games, the Markham Pan Am Centre is only a two-minute walk. It’s not the only local attraction for the athletically inclined, either — there’s a YMCA just a seven- minute walk away, while the athletic-based Bill Crothers Secondary School is five minutes by foot.

500 Steps Commuters have options here. In addition to Highway 407 close by, there’s also the Unionville GO Station, just a 10-minute walk. York Region transit is even closer — there’s a bus stop outside the door — making both of them “very valuable assets to the buildings,” says Jane Renwick, chief marketing officer of Milborne Group, which is working with Markham Square. “I actually think transit’s ahead of the need right now in Markham.”

750 Steps: “It’s going to transform what’s happening at those four corners,” Renwick says of the combination of York University and Markham Square. But walk north and you’ll experience a different side of the same strip — Unionville’s already active historic downtown, complete with so much small town charm it’s a local destination. “It’s beautiful,” Renwick says. “Vibrant restaurants, lots of shops, lots of spots to get ice cream — those sorts of things that just make everybody happy.”

Suites at Markham Square range from 393 to 1,262 square feet and from the $300,000s to the $900,000s. The sales office is at 4461 Hwy. 7 E., Markham, open Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends from noon to 5 p. m. Visit markhamsquare.ca.
