‘A nice glow’
TWO-TONED COLOUR PALETTE DESCRIBED BY DESIGNER AS ‘SERENE’ BY LISA VAN DE VEN
Soft colours help a small space feel airy in the one-bedroom-plus-den model suite designer Melandro Quilatan calls “pretty and welcoming” at Valhalla Town Square. Featuring a limited two-toned colour palette he describes as “serene,” the unit features light grey walls and white wood laminate flooring, while a mix of metals balance out the cooler tones. “The overall feel, when people walk in, is ‘wow, this is heavenly.’ It has a nice glow,” says the president of Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting, who worked with senior stylist Michelle Demeulenaere on the project. Suites at the Edilcan site range from 466 to 1,325 square feet and are priced from $360,000. The sales office is located at 2 Gibbs Rd., Etobicoke, and opens Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. Call 416-233-5554 or visit valhallatownsquare.com.

The living room’s elegant gold and glass coffee table adds a warm accent to the otherwise cool palette, without taking up much visual space. Underneath, a coiled-rope ottoman adds storage, as well as extra seating for guests. “It’s a multi-functional little piece,” Quilatan says.

The designers brought drama to the kitchen with this CB2 light fixture, a focal point in the room. Installed above the island, which doubles as a dining table, it’s made of Plexiglas and gold-toned metal. “It grounds the island underneath and really makes an architectural statement,” Quilatan adds.

“We wanted to carry in the goldt-oned finishes we have in the living/dining room,” Demeulenaere says of the bedroom, which is why the design team opted for this brass bed from CB2, styling it with crisp white and grey bedding and faux fur accent pillows.

The kitchen isn’t the only room with a showstopper light fixture. The bedroom’s oversized fixture features a delicate capiz shell floral pattern, with metal accents. “It’s very, very pretty,” says Quilatan, who opted for equally pretty faux-alabaster lamps on the nightstands, featuring gold filigree shades.
