ALL THE RIGHT STUFF
Alexandra Weston’s efforts continue to raise funds and awareness for worthy causes
In May 2013, Holt Renfrew launched H Project under the watchful eye of Alexandra Weston. It is a specialty department within the high-end department store that offers a variety of products with amazing stories behind them. Standing for humanity, health and habitat, the H Project evolved out of the company’s charitable designer collaboration program as a way to start giving back both locally and abroad.
According to Weston, “The H Project shops present products which may be extraordinary in a number of ways. Perhaps it is the
artisanal method with which they are made, the unique materials used or the way they might celebrate a culture.”
While the H Project is ongoing, Weston creates and curates many events to heighten the public’s awareness of important causes. One such event was the recent Knot on My Planet Gala held at the AGO. The #knotonmyplanet campaign began as a social media call to action to bring awareness to the ivory poaching crisis.
Weston went one step further and teamed up with the global ambassador for the campaign, supermodel Doutzen Kroes. The event was a massive success and even included a life-sized elephant sculpture. In total, Holt Renfrew raised over $250,000 for the fund via charity shopping days and the gala.
At another recent event, the launch of CALLA The Boucharouite Project, designer Calla Haynes collaborated with a group of female Moroccan artisans to explore a new take on the Berber art of carpet-making and ways to repurpose textiles originally created for the luxury fashion industry. The haute event was co-hosted by Weston and Devin Connell, Founder of Crumb.
Attendees previewed the vibrant and colourful collection, while enjoying exquisite food and cocktails by Crumb. CALLA The Boucharouite Project pop-up will stay at Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street flagship store until June 4.
