Sydney was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to parents Sydney and Margaret.

He moved his young family to Vancouver in 1957 and became a Canadian citizen in 1967 out of love and appreciation for his adopted country.

Syd was a great family man, husband and loving father who touched many lives with his kindness, compassion and generosity. Always proud of his Irish heritage, he was a socially active man deeply involved in many fraternal and charitable organizations, most notably his lifelong affiliation with the Free Masons where he progressed through many stations including Worshipful Master in both the Grand and Masonic Lodges. Syd had a long and remarkable career that began in his youth as an apprentice machinist at Short and Harland in Belfast and included positions in insurance, industrial sales and as a certified diving guide and charter operator. He concluded his working career back in the aircraft maintenance industry, where he was a proud member and Shop Steward with the International Assoc. of Machinists and Aerospace workers.

Syd was a wonderful singer and consummate entertainer, mastering both the guitar and bagpipes. He brought great joy to family and friends through his music. He was active at all levels with the Scouts in Ireland and Canada, loved camping, scuba diving and holidays in Hawai’i. The family would like to thank the staff at Eagleridge Manor for their care of Sydney and their support of his family and friends. All are welcome to attend a celebration of Syd’s life scheduled for Friday May 25th at St Johns the Apostle Anglican Church, 2206 St. Johns Street, Port Moody at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
