CHARGES DROPPED AFTER GOVERNOR RESIGNS
WASHINGTON A St. Louis prosecutor said Wednesday that she is dismissing felony computer-tampering charges against Missouri Republican Gov. Eric Greitens, who announced his resignation on Tuesday amid multiple scandals that marred his oncepromising political career.
Kim Gardner said she believes there is still sufficient evidence to bring a case against Greitens, who was accused of using a veterans’ charity donor list to raise money for his 2016 campaign without the permission of the group.
But Gardner said Greitens, 44, was unlikely to face prison time.
“It’s time for all of us to come together,” Gardner said. “It’s time for us to heal the wounds of our city and our state.”
Her decision does not end the legal jeopardy facing Greitens, who remains under scrutiny by a special prosecutor stemming from allegations that he initiated unwanted sexual contact with his hairdresser. Greitens was once seen as a rising star in the party who might one day run for national office.
