Re: Divided we stand, May 30 That the federal government was left with no option but to buy Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline project is a sad acceptance that Canada is a loose confederat­ion and the time when private mega-projects were possible are over.

Trans-provincial power lines, toll roads, dams, generators — forget them. Welcome to the Popular Republic of Canada, compliment­s of narrow-minded provincial politician­s and leaderless central government. Juan C. However, after hearing Justin Trudeau’s comments on China and Cuba, observing his affinity for attention-getting wardrobe choices, and now the nationaliz­ation of a Western oil project, we could be forgiven for thinking that “old Pierre” has come back.
