It’s China’s own fault

Re: Fears rise of Chinese trade roadblock, May 25

We all knew what the Chinese response to the rejection of the Aecon purchase would be. But they have no one to blame but themselves. They must recognize that there are human values that far outweigh state and economic goals. They have to institute policies that put people first. This would start by building a society based on respect for individual lives and the ability to decide one’s own future. They would end the inhumane treatment of their citizens and Chinese people in other countries. They would end their authoritarian dictatorship form of government and embrace democracy.

No China, don’t be angry with Canadians; be angry with yourselves for your backward, inhumane approach to government and society. Jim Jeffs, Parksville, B.C.
