In Ontario, there’s an ongoing debate over auto insurance coverages, premiums and practices.

According to statistics from Ontario auto insurance providers, the average cost for consumers to insure their vehicle in the province is $1,800 a year. Yet, there are three regions around the Greater Toronto Area that, on average, pay higher premiums.

“What we see in a few key regions across the GTA is indicative of drivers who have, for various reasons, been labelled as ‘high-risk,’” says Anthea McFarland, one of the key strategists behind a new driver recovery program by HUB International.

It’s incredibly easy to find yourself with a ‘high-risk’ reputation McFarland says, as tickets, accidents, distracted driving charges, poor payment history and multiple rating factors all play a part in the assessment. Being labelled high-risk means drivers face much higher premiums to get back on the road, however they cannot be denied a quotation for auto insurance, McFarland said. “In Ontario, we follow the ‘all-comers’ rule. The last resort to obtain coverage is facility.”

The thing is, McFarland adds, if you’re not on top of your policy as time passes, you may be paying more than you need to.

That’s why HUB International has created an innovative new three-step program that puts drivers back in control of their options. Dubbed Dr. HUB, the program has been meticulously designed to re-establish their insurance standing in as little time as possible. In fact, HUB is so dedicated to changing the game, they’ve done away with the term ‘high-risk’ altogether.

“Through our program, we’re helping ‘recovering drivers,’ a term we feel is more in line with the clients we represent,” McFarland explained. “These drivers may have hit a snag in the past, but as we work side-by-side with each individual, we don’t see them as ‘high-risk’ while in our program.”

Dr. HUB is designed to help recovering drivers easily manage their policies with the ongoing support of dedicated account manager. Each account manager works one-on-one with their clients’ to get them back on the road with as little hassle as possible in just three simple steps.

“Think of it as your personal insurance concierge,” McFarland said. “HUB International offers a vast array of options with top insurers in Canada, and that includes sub-standard automobile insurers. Our role as a broker and your advocate is to coach and mentor drivers through renewal terms, ensuring competitive rates.”
