Adventure awaits this Labour Day weekend

Five idyllic adventure ideas to send off the summer in style

- Tiffany Mayer Postmedia Content Works

The nights are getting longer and cooler. That old silver maple in the backyard, once lush and green, is starting to look a little tired and faded.

Welcome to summer’s home stretch in Ontario.

No one’s getting down in the dumps about it, though. Labour Day weekend is summer’s last hurrah, but with a portable, easy-travelling beverage, like Bota Box Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s another opportunity for adventure.

ANOTHER CHANCE TO DO SUMMER ON YOUR TERMS

There’s still much to experience before anyone is willing to call it quits on the season that makes this city sparkle. This weekend, give summer a send-off like it’s never seen by:

TAKING ON HAMILTON’S DEVIL’S PUNCH BOWL WITH A HIKE, AND REWARDING YOURSELF WITH A PICNIC AT THE BOTTOM.

Behold 40 million years of geological history as Stoney Creek plunges 20 metres over the rim of one of Hamilton’s most Instagramable waterfalls. A short trail surrounded by red oaks and white pines leads from the top of the bowl to the bottom where you can rest your weary feet and marvel at one of the largest vertical exposures of multi-coloured shale on the Niagara Escarpment.

FINDING YOUR OM DURING A PADDLEBOARD YOGA SESSION IN SUNNYSIDE PARK.

Staying afloat and in position is a supreme mix of adventure and relaxation. Don’t forget to reward yourself for mastering downward dog while drifting on Lake Ontario, though. A glass of Cab Sauv poured from an eco-friendly Bota Box and a few grounding breaths are the way to celebrate that success.

CATCHING A FERRY TO TORONTO ISLAND FOR A DAY OF CYCLING ALONG THE SCENIC PARK TRAIL.

Ride solo or in tandem in one of the few places in the city where cars know how to share the road. It’s you, your BFFs, the wind in your hair and a view of the city you won’t get anywhere else.

CRASHING WAVES, CATCHING RAYS AND GATHERING AROUND A CAMPFIRE AT WASAGA BEACH.

Soak up that sun on the white sands of Wasaga like the mercury’s never going to drop. Then cool off by taking on the continuous loop of white caps rolling off the lake. Warm up again around the fire pit with a glass of red to toast the summer that was.

TAKING IN A SUNSET AND A SELFIE AT THE SCARBOROUGH BLUFFS.

Known affectionately as the Bluffs, there are 11 parks along this towering rocky ridge overlooking Lake Ontario where you can watch the sun go down. Don’t forget the selfie stick to ensure the moment and that view last forever.
