Survey shows Americans think their trucks get them dates

- ALEX REID

Chevrolet owners think their truck will get them dates and make them more attractive, according to a new report dug up by Autoguide.

New York-based Harris Poll worked with Chevrolet preparing a report that asked 1,012 pickup drivers about their trucks, and the results are … interesting.

For example, 38 per cent of those surveyed thought driving a pickup truck makes them more attractive, and more popular.

We figure this may be because your buddy with a pickup truck is the person you go to when you have to move out of your apartment, or haul a bunch of garbage to the dump.

Americans have also taken to calling their pickups “Big Red,” or “Little Red,” or “Old Red.” Seems that red is a pretty popular colour for pickups down there.

None of those names are as popular as “Betsy,” though. The report doesn’t specify whether those owners have painted their trucks cowcoloured, but what it does say is a full 27 per cent of owners have given their truck a name of some kind.

More than half of those surveyed “consider their pickup truck a part of the family,” which is cute, kind of like having a dog. Another 38 per cent also said they “love their pickup truck more than any other object they own.” Just warms your heart, doesn’t it?

A full 60 per cent of owners say they can’t live without their truck, and that they rely on it for work, which makes us happy, because it means Betsy will be bringing home the bacon for a long time.

The survey took place online between March 20 and April 3, 2018, and was open to people over 18 who drove a pickup truck. Oversamples took place in Texas, California and Florida to account for outliers.
