Criticism of Harper unfair

-

Re: Harper’s press tour, Letter to the editor, Oct. 16 Since the letter writer’s accusations against former PM Stephen Harper have little basis in reality, he might as well accuse him of causing national dandruff problems as well.

Take the one about Lac-Megantic and the “transport of hazardous fuels.” I’ll wager heavily that the letter writer is an anti-pipeliner, but I don’t expect his core of dreamers to accept blame when those hazards must move via rail.

Another specious leap of faith in his diatribe is to conflate “restricted and prohibited” firearms. The two are not the same, and restricted firearms are highly registered. Prohibited firearms are not registered and exist because our government’s disposition toward photo-op gun laws, which do absolutely nothing to address illegal access by criminal elements. If the writer can’t do better, he should leave our wrongly maligned former PM alone.

This letter writer blames Stephen Harper for just about everything that he sees is wrong with our nation today. Never mind the fact that the vast majority of gun violence is committed by the criminal element with stolen and imported weapons, and the Liberals under Justin Trudeau have done virtually nothing to address this issue. As for climate change, a draconian tax will do nothing but penalize the middle class. Maybe he can blame Harper for the chaotic border crisis we are now experiencing and even the disappearance of the journalist at the Saudi consulate while he is at it.
