Six potential buyers competed to become the new owners of this classic Cabbagetown Victorian, on the market for the first time in 40 years.

“This was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” says listing agent Desmond Brown. “People liked the fact that this home is located at the end of a row of Victorians. It’s wider than most row houses.”

The heritage home, built in 1858 and designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, retains original features such as large Gothic windows, original trim and high ceilings.

Natural light fills the airy living space. The living/dining room has a walkout to a deck. The eat- in kitchen has a breakfast area with a walkout to the garden.

“Almost everyone who walked into this home fell in love with it.” Brown says. “The successful buyers said the large living spaces gave them a feeling of peace and serenity.”

Two bedrooms have walkin closets and the other bedroom has a sunroom. “The sunroom is a great artist space, or office,” he says.

Although the home hadn’t been on the market for decades and hasn’t been updated in 40 years “the new buyers said they wouldn’t touch a thing,” Brown says, noting there isn’t even a cutlery drawer — just a tray that sits on the counter.

There’s no dishwasher, or clothes dryer, but the 22 x 80foot corner property does have parking for one car.

The location, in the heart of Cabbagetown, is close to Riverdale Park, the TTC, Regent Park Community Centre and Regent Park Aquatic Centre.

And, of course, it’s in the neighbourhood that hosts the popular Cabbagetown Festival.
