U.K. REGULATOR EYES EXAMINING COLLAPSE OF THOMAS COOK
Tuesday it was considering investigating the collapse of travel company Thomas Cook. “In light of recent developments at Thomas Cook, we are considering whether there is any case for investigation and enforcement action as a matter of urgency and in co-operation with the Insolvency Service,” an FRC spokesman said. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and unions questioned the part played by Thomas Cook’s richly rewarded bosses in the company’s demise, and asked why the state had to foot the bill for bringing tens of thousands of tourists home. Speaking in New York, Johnson said: “I have questions for one about whether it’s right that the directors, or whoever, the board, should pay themselves large sums when businesses can go down the tubes like that.” Reuters
