HAVING A BABY ISN’T CHILD’S PLAY

Filmmaker Maxine Trump’s documentary To Kid or Not to Kid tackles the controversial topic of living child- free and why women feel pressured to have babies. Trump focuses the lens on her own story as she considers not having kids and the social criticism that can accompany that lifestyle choice.“I got married, bought a house, ticked all the boxes except children,” Trump says in the trailer. She also follows a woman trying to get permission to be sterilized before she turns 30, but struggles to find a doctor who will perform the procedure. Another woman faces backlash for saying having a child was a bad choice. Originally released in 2018, To Kid or Not to Kid airs on CBC Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Trump’s 2012 doc, Musicwood, was a New York Times Critics pick.
