Drama on Capitol Hill
Re: A sad spectacle that elevates no one, Kelly Mcparland, Dec. 19
On the contrary, one person has been elevated beyond the dreams of all his supporters and reluctant fans. Because of the investigations and so- called evidence of the past three years, Donald J. Trump will no longer be just another president. Americans will be reading about him and watching him in various media for generations to come. He will become an historical figure, right up there with the greatest of political names and events. Thanks to the Democrats, say the Republicans.

Re: Political travesty unfolds in House, Rex Murphy, Dec. 18 Even when I disagree with Rex Murphy I usually applaud his wit and rhetorical flair.
But his latest opinion piece on U. S. President Donald Trump’s impeachment was neither clever nor honest. He completely ignores the consistent testimony by non-partisan officials like Fiona Hill, Jennifer Williams and Lt.- Col. Alexander Vindman, preferring to “read the T-shirt” instead.
Earlier this year, Murphy was snapping at the heels of our own leader, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who also fired a woman he couldn’t rely upon to deliver his personal and political objectives, a prime minister who attempted to obstruct justice and block crucial documents from an ethics inquiry, and who invoked a perverse altruism to vindicate his meddling.
Republicans have pledged allegiance to their leader rather than to the country they serve. So did the Liberals. That Murphy can’t see the equation is disappointing.
