As coronavirus spreads so do the closures. Here’s a look at what has been cancelled or put on hold.
❚ The National Hockey League suspended the rest of the season.
❚ The Juno Awards have been cancelled.
❚ Major League Soccer suspended its season for 30 days.
❚ Quebec Premier François Legault tells organizers to cancel all indoor events attracting crowds of more than 250 people.
❚ Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks will close Saturday through the end of the month after California barred mass gatherings.
❚ Broadway theatres, among New York’s biggest tourist attractions, shut down until April 13.
❚ New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a ban on all gatherings of more than 500 people, including theatres, starting on Thursday.
❚ The New York Philharmonic cancelled performances through March.
❚ The Metropolitan Museum’s three sites in New York City are closing starting on Friday, joining cultural and sports institutions globally that have shut to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. There was no date set to reopen, according to a phone operator.
❚ Rome’s Catholic churches were ordered closed on Thursday in a move believed to be unprecedented in modern times. The decree by Cardinal Angelo De Donatis will remain in effect until at least April 3.
❚ The NCAA cancelled the spectacle known as March Madness for the first time in 82 years.
❚ The National Bastketball Association suspends all games until further notice.
❚ Major League Baseball cancelled the remainder of spring training and pushed back the start of the season by two weeks.
❚ The release of the ninth instalment in Universal Pictures’ blockbuster Fast and Furious franchise has been delayed by nearly a year.
❚ France will close all nurseries, schools and universities from Monday until further notice.
❚ Qatar will close all cinemas, theatres, gyms and museums until further notice.
❚ Saudi Arabia suspended all social gatherings in wedding halls.
❚ Schools and universities will be closed across Spain for at least two weeks, while the prison service cut back visiting rights across its facilities.
❚ Princess Cruises, the operator of two ocean liners that were quarantined after they became hotbeds for coronavirus infections, suspended voyages of all its 18 ships for two months.
❚ The U. S. Congress, Supreme Court and White House closed their doors to much of the public.
❚ U. S. President Donald Trump conceded his re-election campaign rallies would have to be suspended, and he stopped shaking hands with foreign dignitaries.
❚ Israel closed most schools in the country.
❚ Belgium ordered the closure of all bars and restaurants and other leisure venues. All public schools in the country will suspend classes as of Monday until April 3. And stores selling non- essential goods are being told to close their doors on Saturdays, to avoid contact between people not regularly meeting.
❚ Honduras said it would close schools and cancel public events for two weeks.
