It’s spring and people’s thoughts turn to cottages. But in this spring like no other, for real estate and their clients, it’s pause and prep. There’s no more dashing up to tour properties in person or driving around to check out the area. It’s all about virtual offerings, with photos ( some virtually staged if necessary), floor plans, video tours and commentary, and then you take it from there, says listing agent Sandy Waldie.

The owner bought this new 5,000- square- foot cottage in 2007. Waldie describes it as offering the ultimate in family cottage and lakeside living. Features include floor- to- ceiling windows with transom detailing, a stone fireplace in the great room and a main-floor master wing. It also has a lakeside office, a gym and two laundry rooms.

When the owner bought, the family had two children, then that number doubled. In 2013, a significant extension was built for the children and their friends to enjoy. The private wing has bedrooms, bathrooms, a nanny’s suite and a play/ media room. With the twolevel extension, the home now offers 7,000 square feet of luxury living space.

It was built on “very famous old lands held by one family for over a half a century,” she says. “It had been divided and developed into a coveted neighbourhood.”

The property includes 300 feet of shoreline, a sandy toddler- friendly beach, deep water for diving and a two-storey boathouse with a one-bedroom, one-bathroom pied-a-terre above.

Waldie says the owner bought the property because he wanted his own Muskoka playground. He says it’s a quiet area, with no boat traffic and good privacy. He describes it as a year- round happy place. It’s close to Port Carling and Port Sandfield.

“There is a lot of demand for Muskoka cottages but it will be a different spring 2020 start with Realtor prepping done virtually and in isolation. The season will start and finish later. We are getting lots of calls of interest. Many who planned to sell this year may now not as they want to hang on to their hideaway in case out- ofcountry travel next winter is still uncertain so the supply of Muskoka properties may remain low because of this. The next few months will reveal more. To start their search people can browse properties virtually and “keep their spirits high and their hope and hearts warm, and take it from there.”
