Toyota Supra turbo-four starts at $56,390 in Canada

- Alex Reid Driving. ca

Toyota has announced pricing for the 2021 Supra, as well as unveiled a new entry- level model with a four- cylinder engine. The six- cylinder Supra jumps from $ 64,990 to $ 67,690, but the new base- model turbo- four is available from $ 56,390. The extra money for the six- cylinder engine is well spent, however, as Toyota has made a number of improvements.

The 3.0- litre Supra now makes 382 horsepower ( the same as its BMW counterpart), up from the 335 that it started with. Toyota says a new piston design, dual-branch exhaust manifold, and a few other enhancements helped increase the power. The 0- 60 mph ( 96 km/ h) time drops to 3.9 seconds, and the vehicle can still manage 9.4 litres/ 100 km combined.

The chassis has been tuned for better roll resistance and enhanced cornering stability, while mechanical tuning was achieved by tweaking the Adaptive Variable Suspension and Vehicle Stability Control systems.

The entry- level Supra severely undercuts other four- cylinder sports cars, such as the Porsche Cayman, and the BMW Z4. The 2.0- litre engine makes 255 hp, and despite being more than 100 hp down from the six- cylinder engine, it still manages a 0- 60 ( 96km/ h) time of just 5.0 seconds. Much of that is thanks to a weight reduction of 200 pounds compared to the six-cylinder model.

An A91 special- edition model is also available for $ 68,890, which features matte black 19- inch alloy wheels, carbon- fibre mirror caps, an integrated rear spoiler, and unique side graphic.
