If a meteor hit Lake Joseph, this cottage and boathouse would be the only structures left standing, says listing agent Ross Halloran, only half jokingly. He says the owner, who is in construction, built the cottage with industrial-grade materials and built it to last. It was going to be his “final cottage,” the agent says.
Two- by- two- foot square, solid fir beams were brought from B.C., making their last leg of their journey by barge. A custom hand-carved wood spiral staircase connects the interior levels. Fireplaces are made of fieldstone and top- quality building materials are featured inside and out. The wood siding and granite stone exterior has a 60-year composite slate-look roof. There is a top- grade HVAC system, a three- stage water filtration system and other mechanicals and most of the other mechanicals have redundant backup systems. Laneway lighting alone cost $ 350,000. The list goes on.
“What was spent is not reflected in the asking price,” Halloran says.
The main cottage towers 60 feet above the shoreline, a height no longer allowed to be built. Windows on each of the four levels offer views of the grounds, 200 feet of waterfront and a sandy beach.
A floor- to- ceiling fireplace graces the great room. The main- floor also has an open-concept kitchen/living/ dining room for easy mingling.
One master suite is on the main floor, the other on the third floor. The latter has a walkout to a private lake-facing balcony. It even has a separate dressing room and a mini café bar.
The 2,600- square- foot lower level has a family room with a bar and a walk-in wine cellar. The indoor spa has a cedar sauna, hot tubs and bathrooms/change rooms for him and her.
Three walkouts lead to a covered patio with a 40-foot outdoor kitchen/ barbecue area.
Halloran says the property also has a guest cabin and a four- bay workshop/garage equipped with a winch for various passion projects.
Granite pathways lead to a fire pit, sitting areas, a 15x15foot shuffle board and an outdoor chess area with oversized game pieces.
The boathouse, a steel structure with wood accents, has a 740- square- foot open living space with floor to-ceiling shatterproof glass windows and side and front- facing decks with discreet glass railings.
This property is designed for generations of family fun and entertainment, Halloran says. “The cottage market is crazy busy. People are looking for a piece of heaven for their family.”
