Home of tomorrow goes to Pot — Potted Plants, that is

- Melissa Hank, Postmedia News

Ikea executives hope the company’s new Home of Tomorrow will leaf you speechless. In fact, they’ve decked out an apartment building in Szczecin, Poland, with more than 600 plants to ensure it. The initiative transformed the structure into a 2,700-square-foot concept home full of sustainable design solutions as a way to champion self-sufficient, zero-waste living. It’s a tangible response to

issues such as climate change, dwindling natural resources and indoor air quality (hence all those plants). Almost all of the building’s components and materials can be reused and recycled. One standout feature is the indoor farm, which uses aquaponic, hydroponic and aeroponic methods that cut water use by 95 per cent compared to traditional farming.
