Remembering Aline Chrétien

Re: Aline Chrétien: ‘Rock of Gibraltar,’ Sept. 14

I remember how Aline Chrétien’s graciousness, upright character and presence in all official functions elevated both her husband’s stature and that of Canada’s as well. Her departure from public life was a genuine loss for this country, and to the many people who looked up to her.

She was, in many ways, the ideal type of person to fill the role she was given. Never loud, never boisterous or self-serving, Aline Chrétien rose above politics. Her kindness, friendly demeanour and quiet dignity reflected well on prime minister Jean Chrétien, his government, and the people he represented.
