Benefits to new fuel standards
Re: The Liberals’ secret new carbon tax, John Ivison, Septe. 11
John Ivison is correct in that the proposed Clean Fuel Standard (CFS) currently has uncertain implications for fuels like natural gas. However, this is not the focus on the draft CFS regulations expected from the government this fall. The CFS to date focuses only on liquid fuels, like gasoline and diesel. This distinction is essential as fuel and biofuel producers, farmers and forestry operators have been working on these regulations for years. done correctly, the CFS will create new markets for sustainable crops and fibre from Canadian farm and forestry operations, attract new clean manufacturing facilities, and ensure Canada is competitive in global clean energy markets. All of which is good for the future health of our planet and economy.
