Wild moves on From longtime captain, Points leader
The Minnesota Wild will be parting ways with longtime captain mikko Koivu. Wild general manager bill Guerin announced Friday that Koivu will not be re-signed by the club. Koivu, a pending unrestricted free agent, has served as the team’s captain for the past 11 seasons. Koivu, 37, has posted franchise records in assists (504), points (709) and games played (1,028) since being selected by the Wild with the sixth overall pick of the 2001 NHL draft. Koivu, however, was limited to 21 points (4-17) in 55 games this season. He was held without a point in four games during the Wild’s qualifying-round series loss to the Vancouver Canucks. “His hard work, dedication and team-first mentality will be extremely difficult to replace in our lineup,” Guerin said in a statement.
