AT 1 6 , MLS P L AYER GROWING UP FAST
On Saturday, Moses Nyeman might start in another MLS match. On Sunday, he will continue studying for his learner’s permit. Life is coming at D.C. United’s 16-year-old defensive midfielder fast. Last weekend, he started for the first time and appeared in a third consecutive MLS game. Because the roster is riddled by injuries and the reconfigured schedule is busy, Nyeman and other young players are receiving assignments normally filled by experienced players. Besides, they have lofty potential and United (2-7-5) could use the help. “He is going to continue to get games,” coach Ben Olsen said of the 5-foot-5, 135-pound rookie. “With all our youngsters, it’s pretty clear to them that it’s also there for the taking. If they show me on game day we have a better chance of winning with the youngsters on the field, they will play.” Nyeman, who turns 17 next month, might return to the lineup Saturday against Atlanta. After logging 80 minutes across four appearances as a substitute, he went the distance in the 2- 0 defeat to the New England Revolution last Sunday.
