Ikea to launch second-hand store in Sweden
Ikea is continuing its march toward sustainability by launching a second-hand store. Opening later this year in Eskilstuna, Sweden, the store will sell furniture and furnishings that once had minor damages, like scratches and dents, but have since been fixed. It’ll also feature items that have been assembled and returned, and therefore can’t be put back on shelves in traditional Ikea stores. Think of it as a bigger version of Ikea’s as-is bargain section. It will be located in the Retuna shopping mall, the world’s first second-hand shopping centre, and is part of the company’s efforts to become a fully circular business by 2030. “We’re looking at a change of our total business,” Ikea’s sustainability chief, Lena Pripp-kovac, previously told Dezeen. “The aim is to remove waste. It’s a big journey but it’s also quite exciting because it’s possible.”
