Financial Post wins three SABEW Best in Business awards
TORONTO • The Financial Post picked up three 2019 Best in Business awards handed out by the Canadian chapter of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers ( SABEW) to recognize excellence in business journalism.
Geoffrey Morgan, who covers energy for the Financial Post, was a double winner this year.
He took home a Silver in the Scoop category for a story in August 2019 on the billionaire Koch brothers’ exit from the Canadian oilpatch, part of a growing foreign exodus from the sector.
Morgan and former Post reporter Vanmala Subramaniam were also awarded a Silver in the Package category for The Rural Alberta ( Dis) advantage, a series in late 2019 about the declining economic fortunes of rural towns across Alberta.
In the Short Feature category, Joe O’connor picked up a third Silver for his look at a tiny Ontario town that could be the epicentre of a new gold rush.
The Financial Post also received four honourable mentions: Kevin Carmichael for Commentary; Victor Ferreira for Personal Finance/ Investing; Yadullah Hussain and Pamela Heaven for their daily Post Haste missive in the Newsletter category; and Scott Gill and
James Mcleod for video.
“On behalf of the Financial Post I would like to congratulate all our winners and nominees,” Financial Post acting editor Joe Hood said following the announcement.
“It is great to see their hard work and dedication recognized.”
This year’s winners were announced later than usual due to the pandemic.
