October 26, 1876 - Métis poet and balladeer Pierre Falcon died in Grantown (now St. François Xavier), Man. Though he worked as a fur trader, farmer and magistrate, Falcon is best remembered for his artistic career. Also known as Pierriche, or Pierre the Rhymer, his works recounted the early Métis settler experience.“la Chanson de la Grenouillè­re” tells of the Battle of Seven Oaks. Falcon Lake in Manitoba is named in his honour.
