Elected office a privilege
Re: Rough landing for high- flying politicians, Jan. 5
News travels almost as fast as politicians avoiding winter. Cases started with Ontario’s finance minister, who quickly became Lightning Rod of our pandemic disaffection, and spread across the jurisdictions a mari usque ad mare.
There are two double standards breached regularly by many who hold elected office. The first is the “Do what I say, not what I do” transgression. The other is “It’s OK if it’s legal; ethics and morality be damned.”
Running for office is a right. Being elected is a privilege. That should never be confused with the privileges of office.
