Soviet defector Igor Gouzenko was born in Rogachov, Russia. Gouzenko, a cipher clerk, fled the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa in 1945, taking over 100 documents with him. The files proved the existence of a Soviet spy ring in Canada. Gouzenko was a frequent presence on Canadian news programs, always wearing what would become his signature look - a bag over his head.
