Koenigsegg sweet on Safaris, not SUVS

- Alex reid

Koenigsegg will not stoop to the low some other carmakers have by building a watered-down version of its cars for mass consumption — that is, a high-performance suv.

many supercar-makers will say building an suv bolsters sales of higher-end products, which don’t sell in large volumes.

of course, the adverse affect of building an suv is it arguably diminishes the brand’s image in favour of appeasing buyers.

Koenigsegg has just ventured into four-seater territory with its new Gemera, but chief executive officer christian von Koenigsegg says that’s as far as he’s willing to go when it comes to mass-market practicality, according to a recent interview with Youtuber misha charoudin.

Koenigsegg says he has “never been a great fan of suvs,” because he likes “sporty behaviour” while driving.

he says the idea of a performance suv is an oxymoron, and thinks automakers build them with bad vehicle dynamics and then try to fix it after the fact.

abstaining from building an suv also means the brand will be missing out on a load of cash, but there’s a plan for that as well, one that involves tapping a different market supercar people just can’t get enough of — safari cars.

Koenigsegg says he would rather turn the Gemera into an off-road-capable monster that could speed across sand dunes, but still offer good performance on the road. Whether or not that decision is actually in the cards for the brand remains to be seen, but the swedish brand has surprised people multiple times.
