MORE THAN A MAN CAN STOMACH
A man in Suffolk, England, has a condition in which his body turns carbs into booze. Nick Carson, 62, suffers from auto-brewery syndrome (ABS), meaning his digestive system ferments carbs and turns them into alcohol in his stomach. “I can go from being stone-cold sober to being three times over the driving limit in a matter of minutes, which is quite scary,” he told Ladbible. on one occasion, he said low-fat chips rendered him so drunk that he passed out within 45 minutes of eating them. Carson, a cleaning business owner, developed ABS from encountering strong chemicals at work almost two decades ago. Doctors diagnosed him after his wife learned about the condition on the TV series Doc Martin. Carson eats a keto-based diet to manage the disorder and uses a breathalyzer every hour. But he admits he still craves Victoria sponge cake.
