VALUE VILLAGE EMPLOYEE FINDS SENIOR’S $85,549

-

Last Monday, a Vancouver Value Village store manager, Jeffrey Stonehouse, and a co-worker were going through recently donated items when she opened a plastic bag to reveal what appeared to be bank deposit books and stacks of envelopes. They opened one envelope, which contained what seemed like a wad of money. Then more envelopes and more money. And even more money. “I have the exact amount here — $85,549,” he told Postmedia News. The two also found bank receipts with a name. Other documents indicated the owner may not have seen the money in about a decade. Vancouver police located the owner, a woman who had moved into a long-term care home a year ago. They learned the money was unknowingly donated by family members clearing out her storage unit. The family will collect the cash.
