Nickelback has collaborated with a British group that made its song Rockstar into a sea shanty. The group, Lottery Winners, posted its version of the Canadian band’s 2005 single last Monday, and Nickelback added vocals to the mix within days. The new version now has 1.1 million views on Nickelback’s Tiktok page. The video features members of both bands, as well as sailor hats, some seaside scenery and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, shown, on a boat. The Rockstar transformation comes as sea shanties continue to flood social media. Classic sailing songs are going viral on Tiktok, and many users on the video-sharing platform have started adapting newer songs — including W.A.P. — into shanties. The man who kick-started the Tiktok craze, 26-year-old Scottish postal worker Nathan Evans, has released his version of the 19th-century sea shanty The Wellerman as a single and signed a record deal with Polydor.
