ON THIS DAY
January 27, 1967
Inuit singer and songwriter Susan (Uuliniq) Aglukark was born in Churchill, Man. Aglukark’s blend of traditional Inuit rhythms and easy-listening pop is distinguished by her gentle voice, upbeat melodies, and inspirational lyrics (sung in both English and Inuktitut). Her album This Child (1995) sold more than three hundred thousand copies in Canada, and the lead single,“o Siem,” became the first top-ten hit by an Inuk performer. Aglukark has won three Juno Awards over the course of her eight-album career.
