BIDEN REPEALS ANTI-ABORTION ‘GLOBAL GAG RULE’
Joe Biden has revoked the controversial anti-abortion “global gag rule” in the latest round of executive orders aimed at unravelling the Trump administration’s health policies.
The rule, officially called the Mexico City policy, prohibited international charities from receiving United States funding if they provided education, referrals or services for legal abortions — even if they did not use the U.S. money for those specific services.
The policy has long been a political football in the U.S., having been introduced by every Republican president since Ronald Reagan in 1984 and repealed by every Democrat. But Trump dramatically expanded its scope.
